Hi all,

I logged-on today to find the link to the blog had broken. From the home page navigation bar, the ‘FrImp Blog’ link was pointing to http://www.frimp.co.uk/blog/ as it should have done. But the page being returned was http://www.frimp.co.uk/frimp.co.uk/blog/ which does not exist. What was going on?

I first checked the blog settings and they were all correct. So then I downloaded the main page template and it seemed all correct. So, after scratching my head for a while, and rechecking and rechecking, I changed the reference of the main link to a relative reference, ie the link now pointed to href=”/blog/”. After reloading and refreshing the page, then clearing my cache, the link STILL pointed to the original wrong address! What was going on?

I changed the link back again to the hard coded link (the full address) and moved the href to the front of the tag. Suddenly, the link started working. Now what was that all about.

<a href=”http://www.frimp.co.uk” title=”Frimp Blog”>Frimp Blog</a> should be identical to
<a title=”Frimp Blog” href=”http://www.frimp.co.uk” >Frimp Blog</a>.

Everywhere else on the page the links are in the first format. So why did the blog link show weird behaviour? I have no idea……..

I believe it is fixed now, although after an hour on this, I have no idea what was wrong, nor what fixed it, but it is fixed now - finally!

Paul.

I am toying with a new community software (open source) from Vanilla, which in my humble opinion is very cool. I have not ‘tarted’ it up yet except for one additional module I installed from the vanilla community.

The page is called FRIMP WORLD.

On the Frimp World page you will see a map of Europe, with a marker I have added. You will have to register as a member of the community first but it is not an instant membership. Another member has to approve your membership first, and since I am the only current member, you will have to wait until I next log in. Once you are a member you can start new discussions, add categories, add a location marker to the map of whatever you like…

In fact add as many location markers as you like. You simply click ‘add location’, use the map controls to pan and zoom until you have the place/spot you are looking for. When you click on that spot, the marker appears. You then fill in the details on the form and submit. Easy.

Where are we? Where are you?

Despite the default styling of the vanilla message system, I would appreciate feedback on if I should make this live or not. By live, I mean spend the time customising layout and adding to the main menu bar. It may overlap somewhat with the functionality of this blog, but this blog is just a blog. Vanilla is a community of equals!

I look forward to your comments.

Hi,

We emailed an apology back.

Hi Ian,

Firstly, let me apologise and explain why you have experienced difficulty downloading the podcast for September 2007.

As you can see from this blog post I have a few files left to upload. Unfortunately the file you chose is one of the four files I have had trouble uploading. The reason it would not download for you is that I have not yet succeeded in uploading it.

I am really, really sorry. It must have been very frustrating for you. I have reset the link so that you can follow the original link and I will upload the file as soon as I am able to.

I will email you again when the link is ready to download.

Paul.

I just wanted to make our apology public. I have amended the missing products so that they are ‘out of stock’. This should prevent this happening again. In the meantime, I will try to get around the upload problem as soon as I can (which is currently affecting only 4 products).

Paul.

PS The good news is that the download linking system seems to be working fine and is automatic upon successful payment.

FrImp.co.uk is currently looking for musicians with rare/deleted/hard-to-come-by or previously unreleased recordings/video that they would like to sell/give away through the site. Ideally these would be recordings that have either been self released of that have no tie to a record label (other than that of the artist). Maybe a short run of CD-Rs that you only have a few remaining copies of or some live recordings that have never been considered for release due to expense - remember, we can be accessed all over the world, so if you have an audience, chances are someone will want to hear your music and maybe even pay you for it!

Crazy.

Isn’t it all too exciting? Well you’d better just calm down, think about what you’d like us to sell for you and then do yourself a favour and contact myself or Paul with the info and we’ll take it from there. Now, how about a cup of Camomile or some nice relaxing crack? (Note - I am of course not offering to supply crack. Or Camomile.)
